Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper presents for second‐language educators a synthesis of key principles of successful classroom management and instruction, which have been doubly validated by a quarter‐century of effective‐teaching research and by 30 years of personal education experience of the author. This summary of practices, verified in classrooms from the elementary through to the post secondary levels, describes what effective L2 teachers do in both the short‐ and long‐term to enhance student learning, and particularly to motivate uncooperative students who may be present in middle year and high school language classes.
