Abstract

This paper describes a microprocessor-based data acquisition system. The system is reconfigurable in as much as it is modular in both hardware and software. This makes the system very versatile and flexible. It can be configured by the operator to suit his process. The system is capable of performing a variety of operations on data acquired by it, e.g. periodic or on-demand logging, limit checking, trend checking, alarming, self checking, transducer linearization, cold junction compensation, etc. The hardware, software, interfacing, fabrication and testing of MIDAS-R are described in this paper.
