Abstract

To clarify the origins of high microwave surface resistance Rs in high-Tc superconducting ceramics, the Rs of different sized grain samples (from mu m to mm) are measured as a function of temperature and magnetic field using the resonant cavity method. It is demonstrated that the profiles of the Rs-T and the Rs-H curve strongly depend on the grain size. Since T and H dependence becomes greater as the grain size is decreased, it is concluded that the Rs of ceramics is mainly caused by weak-links located at the grain boundaries.
