Abstract

The microwave spectrum of 3-methylene-1-cyanocyclobutane has been recorded from 8.0 to 40.0 GHz. Both a-type and c-type transitions were observed. The R-branch assignments have been made for the ground state and three excited states. The experimental moments of inertia were in agreement with a non-planar heavy atom skeleton with the CN group in the equatorial position. The dipole moment components were determined to be μ a = 3.66 ± 0.03 D, μ c = 1.27 ± 0.02 D and μ t = 3.88 ± 0.03 D. From the J = 3 ← 2, K= 2 transitions, the χ aa quadrupole coupling constant of the nitrogen-14 nucleus was found to have a value of −3.49± 0.15 MHz.
