Abstract

Measurements have been made of the pure rotational spectra of four isotopic species of GeH3I and six species of GeH3Br, using a microwave spectrometer. The Ge—I bond length derived from the analysis is 2.5075±0.0006 Å. Hyperfine structure in the spectrum due to quadrupole coupling and centrifugal distortion gave an iodine quadrupole coupling constant eQq = −1381 ± 4 MHz and a centrifugal distortion constant D JK = 0.0077 ± 0.0002 MHz. The results obtained for GeH3Br are: Ge–Br bond length, 2.2970±0.0002 Å; eQq ( 79Br) = 384 ± 2 MHz; eQq ( 81Br) = 321 ± 3 MHz; and D JK = 0.013 ± 0.001 MHz.
