Abstract

The microwave spectra of cis-glyoxal- d 1 (C 2HDO 2) and cis-glyoxal- d 2 (C 2D 2O 2) have been obtained and assigned in the range from 18 to 40 GHz. The determined rotational constants for C 2HDO 2 were: A = 23857.40 ± 0.36, B = 6075.89 ± 0.09, and C = 4849.65 MHz; and for C 2D 2O 2, A = 21521.82 ± 0.21, B = 5968.99 ± 0.04, and C = 4680.61 ± 0.05 MHz. By using these rotational constants along with those for the light molecule and an assumed CO bond length of 1.207 Å, the following structural parameters were obtained from a least-squares fit: r CC) = 1.514 A ̊ , r (CH) = 1.130 A ̊ ,∢CCO = 123.4°, and ∢CCH = 116.2°. It was found that the carbon-carbon bond distance was the only structural parameter which was significantly affected by the assumed carbon-oxygen bond distance.
