Abstract

The Global Hydrology and Climate Center (GHCC) consists of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center's ES41/Earth Systems Science Division, University Space Research Association and University of Alabama in Huntsville. A few researchers at GHCC and the microwave group of the Earth Systems Science Division, in particular, collaborated with Alabama A and M University in proposing hydrology, soil climatology and remote sensing studies by establishing a Minority University Research Center (MURC). The proposal was funded for FY95 to FY99 and the authors currently are in the first two years' planning and implementation phases. The microwave remote sensing of land surface soil moisture is one element of the research program.
