Abstract

Micro porous OPS char is synthesized by the microwave pyrolysis of OPS under different process conditions. Effect of three process parameters viz. microwave power, radiation time and N2 flow rate on yield of OPS char has been studied. Increase in microwave power and radiation time both decreased the OPS char yield. However N2 flow rate was not seen to affect the OPS char yield significantly. Although beyond 1200 W microwave power and 50 min radiation time, these process parameters does not affect the OPS char yield much and a very little decrement in OPS char yield is seen on increasing of these process parameters. A very high microwave power and radiation time is not recommended for the synthesis of micro porous OPS char. Elemental analysis of OPS and OPS char showed a higher carbon content in OPS char which confirms that OPS char has a higher heating value as compared to OPS.
