Abstract

The propagation characteristics of electromagnetic waves through a waveguide containing siold-state plasma in the presence of an external static magnetic field have been studied. The dispersion relation for bounded solid-state plasma system in the presence of a finite magnetic field in the direction of guide axis has been derived. In a special case, the propagation characteristics of a rectangular waveguide under the influence of strong longitudinal magnetic field have been discussed at 77°K and at room temperature. Solutions for propagation constant and field components for TM modes were obtained. The Ω-B diagrams show that the value of the phase constant increases with increase of signal frequency, whereas the attenuation constant increases with the increase of frequency and attains a maximum for a particular frequency depending upon the temperature. With further increase of frequency, the attenuation constant decreases.
