Abstract

Wideband, low loss and cost-effective capability of modern photonics has led to an ever-increasing interest in the use for the generation and processing of microwave and millimeter-wave signals for broadband wireless access, sensor networks, and radar applications. In this paper, recent advances in microwave photonics are reviewed with an emphasis on optical generation and processing of microwave and millimeter-wave signals. Future system design challenges are also discussed.
