Abstract

A microwave photonic frequency conversion system based on a dual-loop optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) for B5G/6G communication is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In this scheme, a local oscillation (LO) signal with low phase noise and a high side-mode suppression ratio is generated by a dual-loop OEO. The up- and down-conversion state can be switched by changing the bias voltages of the dual-polarization dual-drive Mach-Zehnder modulator (DP-DDMZM). In the experiment, the intermediate frequency (IF) signal at 6 GHz is up-converted to the radio frequency (RF) signal at 26.0025 GHz when the LO signal is with a frequency of 20.0025 GHz. Meanwhile, the RF signal at 14 GHz is downconverted to the IF signal at 6 GHz by using the same LO signal. The proposed scheme can meet the requirement of the B5G/6G wireless communication system with the higher operation band.
