Abstract

We investigated the effects of the spread of normal resistance and uniformity of microwave power distribution on the performance of series arrays of Josephson junctions (JJs). We found that bicrystal JJs technology offers reasonable spread of normal resistance, if an additional shunting gold layer is used. On the other hand, at the present stage the uniformity of microwave current distribution is the main factor which limits the performance of junctions arrays, but it may be improved by introducing an additional ground plane.
