Abstract

As breast cancer spreads in sync with the limitations of contemporary imaging techniques concerned with detecting tumors in earlier stages, the microwave imaging technique has been considered a promising technique in the last few years. It has attracted the attention of recent research, due to its impressive potential and the improvement occurring in the detection process. The fundamental idea behind microwave imaging is to use microwave pulses radiated from the antenna to penetrate human tissues, and then the reflected waves from the scanned object are captured and processed using a MATLAB algorithm (MERIT toolbox) to reconstruct the image. An array of eight identical Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna is used to transmit the microwave pulses and receive the reflected signals. CST Microwave Studio is utilized to simulate the proposed antenna and the breast phantom. The reconstructed image has shown that the proposed system can detect cancer cells in their earlier stages, which can help in early disease treatment.
