Abstract
AbstractAn efficient and mild methodology for the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to the corresponding carbonyl functions is described with N,N,N′,N′‐tetrabromobenzene‐1,3‐disulfonamide and poly(N‐bromobenzene‐1,3‐disulfonamide) using microwave irradiation under solvent‐free conditions. Aliphatic, benzylic and allylic alcohols are rapidly oxidized without over‐oxidation to carboxylic acids. Secondary carbinols are slowly oxidized so that the reaction is highly chemoselective.
