Abstract

Planar anisotropy ferromagnetic Pr2Co17 flakes were synthesized by combining vacuum arc-melting method and high-energy ball-milling process. The saturated magnetization (Ms) and coercive force (Hc) of Pr2Co17 are 111 emu g−1 and 148 Oe, respectively. The high-frequency electromagnetic properties were discussed in detail. The microwave-absorption results show that the RLs (reflection loss values) below −10 dB are obtained in the range of 7.6–11.8 GHz at the thickness of 2.5 mm, which covers most of the X-band (8–12 GHz). For a given matching thickness of 1.5 mm, the RLs below −10 dB are obtained in 12.3–16.2 GHz, which covers most of the Ku-band (12–18 GHz). A delta function is used to evaluate the impendence matching degree. This work indicates that the Pr2Co17 submicron flakes possess strong microwave absorption at a broad bandwidth, thus are promising for the practical applications in microwave-absorption field.
