Abstract

Large defects of the lips have always posed a significant challenge for the reconstructive surgeon. The lips are highly visible structures and are the main focal point of the lower third of the face. 1 Zide B.M. Head and neck reconstruction. in: McCarthy J.C. Plastic surgery. Vol. 3. Modern reconstruction of the lips evolved in the 1800s and was refined in the 1900s by using mostly local or regional techniques. 2 Gullane P.J. Martin G.F. Minor and major lip reconstruction.
