Abstract

Characteristics of microsyntactic intergrowth of V 8O 15 in V 9O 17 prepared by a chemical transport method are investigated by transmission electron microscopy. There is observed a range of syntactic intergrowth that can be described as two phase coexistence down to that on a unit cell scale which supports the concept that the microsyntactic intergrowth is a syntactic intergrowth of different compounds on a unit cell scale. A note on the significance of microsyntactic intergrowth to the understanding of long periods in (electronically) insulating substances is added.
