Abstract

The presence of hypercoagulable states, either inherited or acquired, has been recognized as a risk factor for free flaps failure. Nevertheless, the actual risk of microvascular failure related to these conditions is yet to be determined. We present and discuss the case of a successful free tissue transfer in a 27-year-old man, with known homozygosity for the C677T polymorphism for the MTHFR gene mutation and anti-erythrocyte panagglutinin with a review of the literature.
