Abstract

Microstructure, tensile properties and rollability of V-5(Al-5Ti-1B) alloys (V-5ATB) for hydrogen separation have been investigated in this work. The long needle like TiB phases precipitated in V-5ATB alloys are beneficial to grain refinement. The fracture mode of the two as-cast alloys at room temperature is brittle fracture. The tensile strength of V-5ATB alloys is higher than that of V-5Al alloys, but the elongation is lower. The ultimate reduction rate of the first pass rolling (rup) of V-5ATB alloys at room temperature is higher than that of V-5Al alloys, indicating that the compression deformability of V-5ATB alloys exceeds its the tensile deformability. With increasing rolled reduction rate, the TiB phases in V-5ATB alloys were fragmented from long needle into short rods or dots and the gaps were filled leaving no noticeable voids by V-based solid solution (Vss) plastic flow, and texture coefficient (TC) value in the (2 0 0)V plane of V-5ATB alloys continuous increases.
