Abstract

Microstructure examination, X-ray diffraction analysis and mechanical tests of specimens prepared with various brazing conditions showed that the brazing microstructures varied with gap size, brazing time and filler metal flow path. There are four types of microstructure found in using the powder form filler metal and three types in using the foil form filler metal. These microstructures were examined by optical metallography, SEM, EDX, X-ray and EPMA to interpret the morphology, phases formed and their composition. The intermetallic phases Ti 2 Ni and Ti 2 Cu are formed in the brazing region. The Ti 2 Ni phase with certain morphology may cause brittle fracture
