Abstract

TiC–W clad layer is studied in order to inspect that the interface between TiC and the matrix is bonded effectively. Results show that the crystallographic orientations of good bonding conditions are (2 0 0) TiC//(1 0 1) α-Fe and (0 2 0) TiC//( 1 2 1 ̄ ) α-Fe. The TiC reinforcement particles could not melt fully during cladding; thus, the clad layer was strengthened by the residual particles of TiC. In addition, primary precipitated ferrite surrounded the TiC particle by heterogeneous nucleation during solidification.
