Abstract

1. A modified technique is proposed for the preparation of microsections from unsintered specimens. Photomicrographs of such microsections have been obtained. 2. A preliminary investigation has been carried out on the microstructure of blanks from PZh-2M iron and carbonyl-nickel powders. 3. Plastic deformation of powder particles leads to the formation of compact solids whose size differs substantially from that of the original powder particles and of fragments of various shapes. 4. Shear plane (line) intersection at right angles is observed. 5. The method of densification apparently governs the character of particle displacement: Particlelayer displacement, which is characteristic of pressing, is supplemented by particle rotation in rolling.
