Abstract
Laser welding of dissimilar γ-TiAl alloy to Ni-based superalloy with Ti/V/Cu filler metals was applied and well formed joint was obtained. The weld zone consisted of AlNi2Ti, CuNiTi, (V,Cr) solid solution (ss) and (Cu,Ni)ss. The γ-TiAl interface zone composed of AlCuTi and AlCu2Ti. The microstructure evolution and formation mechanism of the weld zone and γ-TiAl interface zone were discussed in detail. Mechanical testing of the joints revealed that the average tensile strength was 170 MPa and the fractured joint passed through the weld zone and γ-TiAl interface zone.
