Abstract

Large domain YBa 2Cu 3O 7−δ/Y 2BaCuO 5 (YBCO) samples were prepared by top-seeded melt-textured process, with the addition of SnO 2 and CeO 2 or PtO 2. It was found that, in comparison to that in the CeO 2-doped sample, the YBa 2Cu 3O 7−δ (123) matrix was twisted in the PtO 2-doped sample showed a more obvious second-peak effect, and higher values of a-b plane critical current density ( J c a b ) and irreversibility fields ( B irr ). The enhancement of J c a b is related to the microstructure inhomogeneity and the core surface Δκ pinning.
