Abstract

Glass-ceramics based on Na2O-CaO-SiO2 system show attractive properties due to the high transparency even with large crystals size. In this work, effects of ZrO2 on glass structure and crystallization behaviors of Na2O-CaO-SiO2 glasses were investigated. The introduction of ZrO2 has significant influence on glass network and resultant thermal and crystallization properties. Glass transition temperature and first crystallization temperature increase monotonically with the increase of ZrO2 content. In addition to Na4Ca4(Si6O18) crystalline phase, Na4Zr2(SiO4)3 and Na2ZrSi2O7 crystalline phases are precipitated when the content of ZrO2 is high. Vickers hardness of the as-prepared and heat-treated glass increases significantly with the increase of ZrO2 content and heat-treatment temperature.
