Abstract

AbstractBlast furnace and direct reduction unit of iron and steel making is a very common process to utilize the iron ore in India. Due to the scarcity of high-grade iron ore, inferior grade iron ore is used in which gangue content is high. Gangue content is mainly a response to slag phase formation during the heat hardening of pellets. Gangue is consisting of Al2O3 and SiO2 in the natural feed is used to prepare iron ore pellets. In the present study, Al2O3 content influenced the cold compressive strength (CCS) according to microstructure phase formation such as hematite, magnetite, silicate, and pores phases. In the study Al2O3 composition, 2% produces a significant amount of hematite grains density 442 grains/mm2, silicate grains density 660 grains/mm2 and existing pores 47.5 grains/mm2 support CCS 4.5 KN which is good as compared to other Al2O3 compositions as 1; 3; 4%.KeywordsCCSAluminaMicrostructurePhase grain density
