Abstract

The conditioning of prior β grains in a two phase (α+β) titanium alloy Ti-6Al-3.2Mo-1.8Zr-0.3Si has been reported to play an important role in designing suitable (α+β) microstructures for specific applications. It has been shown that single pass hot rolling of the alloy in the β phase field followed by a short-time recrystallisation annealing at a temperature just above the β-transus temperature produces the most homogeneous distribution of the α phase morphology in the structure after subsequent (α+β) rolling.
