Abstract
Superlattices have opened up a promising area for the development of new synthetic materials that are of interest for scientific and application purposes. Similar to energy-band engineering in semiconductor superlattices, phase-matching engineering can be used for efficient high-harmonic generation. As an example, a theoretical analysis is given of direct third-harmonic generation at any wavelength by means of the second-order nonlinearity.
