Abstract

Many works published on thermoelasticity, pseudoelasticity, shape memory effect and the two-way shape memory effect associated with martensitic transformations deal in part with the microstructural changes occuring during the manipulations of the individual effects. Because the four effects are very closely interrelated, a study of the microstructural changes occuring in the same area of the sample is needed and should yield important information for the understanding of the interrelationships. Because the microstructural changes, which occur during the shape recovery associated with the memory effects, are dynamic, the analysis of a cine-film, even frame by frame, will also bring some new aspects. The attention should mainly be drawn on two phenomena which need a better understanding: the microstructural changes taking place during the shape recovery stage of the shape memory effect and the comparaison of the microstructure obtained by thermoelastic martensitic transformation with that obtained during the two-way memory effect.
