Abstract

The microstructural features of a cubic boron nitride ceramic processed under ultrahigh pressures have been examined. Cubic boron nitride crystals exhibited much plastic deformation, mainly in the form of mechanical twinning and were bonded by a single intergranular phase which formed by reaction between silicon and nickel sintering additives.
