Abstract

Microscopic models have been used to fit the 3He elastic scattering cross sections for the samarium sotopes at 53 MeV. A double folding model using an effective nucleon-nucleon interaction works reasonably well. A microscopic model using the Feshbach formalism to extend the nucleon-nucleus optical potential to composite particles, produces too diffuse a potential. The variation of volume integrals per particle pair and root mean square radii over an isotopic sequence are discussed for the three models.
