Abstract

Based on the Hartree‐Fock‐plus‐BCS theory with Gogny forces as well as the collective hamiltonian method, a thorough study of the Thorium and Radium isotopes as well as the Barium and Cerium isotopes, is carried out. In the mean field approach we discuss, mainly, the mass densities and the dipole moments. In the collective hamiltonian approach a detailed comparison between the theoretical predictions and the experimental results for the 1− energies and B(E1) and B(E3) transition probabilities is performed.
