Abstract

By means of micropuncture of single rat thyroid follicles, the cation composition of colloid was studied in normal adult and weanling rats, in rats reared on high and low iodine diets and in rats traated with thyroxine or thyroxine plus potassium perchlorate. The diets had no effect on the distribution of sodium between plasma and colloid but there were marked effects on potassium distribution. Both high and low iodide diets caused the potassium equilibrium potential difference between colloid and plasma to be increased whereas immaturity, and treatment with thyroxine alone or thyroxine plus perchlorate caused it to decrease.
