Abstract

Clonal propagation of the orchid hybrid Aranda ‘Deborah’ was achieved through in vitro culture of inflorescence tip explants. The initiation medium was liquid Knudson C enriched with coconut water (CW), sucrose and benzyladenine (BA). Further growth and proliferation were better in liquid Vacin and Went medium (VW) with CW and sucrose. Plantlet development was faster in VW agar medium. The process from culture initiation to plantlets for transplant to community pots took ∼10 months. By repeated subculture of explants and proliferating protocorm-like bodies, plantlet production could be maintained continuously for as long as desired.
