Abstract

Background: Differentiated thyroid cancer is becoming increasingly prevalent mostly due to the increasing incidence of micropapillary carcinoma. This is characterized by a papillary thyroid cancer <10 millimeters and is associated with an excellent prognosis and a 10-year survival rate. For low-risk tumors, hemithyroidectomy alone does not reduce survival but it may be associated with a slightly higher local recurrence. This study aimed to compare patients with Micropapillary vs. Papillary thyroid carcinomas regarding overall survival and disease-free survival.
