Abstract

Micro-indentation studies have been done on the (110) faces of the chalcohalides of antimony and bismuth, Fracture toughness and the brittleness index have been calculated for SbSeBr and BiSeBr from the observed crack lengths. The yield strength has also been determined from values of microhardness. A linear relation has been found between the hardness and the energy gap of the compounds studied.
