Abstract

Abstract In this article, recent developments in microemulsion polymerization for polymeric particles preparation are summarized. Polymeric particles with hydrophilic, hydrophobic, and amphiphilic nature can be synthesized by means of microemulsion polymerization employing different formulations. The types, the amounts, and the nature of the used surfactant, solvent, and cosolvent (if any); mixing rate; temperature; the types and the amounts of cross‐linkers (if any); and the nature of monomers and polymers are very important parameters in microemulsion polymerization determining the size and the properties of polymeric particles. These parameters that are effective in the compartmentalization of the reaction medium and their effect on size of the prepared particles are summarized.
