Abstract
From several sides microelectronics has a great influence on the development of electrical drives. The one is the control side which goes digital more and more – not forgetting the analog part of sensing – the second is power electronics, which has not been a real microelectronics area since the MOS Power Transistors and more recently IGBT technology influenced this development. We are just at the beginning of this development which will lead to new High Power Smart Devices, the integration of complex digital control in single chip systems and the integration of mechanics and microelectronics. This paper will explain some new developments in power electronics, a new High Voltage Smart Power technology and recent developments in the integration of digital control hy means of ASICs.
