Abstract

One of the difficult choices facing human service professionals who are considering a move toward full or part-time independent practice is the question of whether or not to use a microcomputer for accounting, client information, and related management systems. Addressed in this article are 1) business characteristics which may affect automation choices; 2) hardware configurations; 3) typical costs of various components; 4) purchasing, lease, and rental options; 5) security; and 6) cost benefits.
