Abstract

The authors describe a local oscillator designed for a low resolution RF spectrum analyser. By combining a YIG oscillator, a frequency meter and a microcomputer, a digitally controlled sweeper was obtained. The smallest step size is 80 kHz. The short term frequency stability in the time domain is 30 kHz (standard deviation). The step time is adjusted from 50 ms to more than 10 s. An optional routine enables operating at any fixed frequency in the range 1500-3000 MHz.
