Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to know the actions of epidemiological follow-up and care, according to guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health (MH). Methods: Literature review. The search was based on the Virtual Health Library, where the following descriptors were used: health services, microcephaly, zika virus infection. As secondary source, books were made available at the Unifran library, 8 articles and 4 books were selected between 2011 and 2016. Results: Microcephaly is a disease that affects neurological development, in addition to the perimeter of the skull and brain, can lead to epilepsy, cerebral palsy, retarded cognitive development, speech, vision and hearing problems. The causes may be congenital or not, such as infections, trauma, maternal diseases, drug use among others. Every suspected case must be notified early and properly registered, the MH has prepared the Public Health Events Record Concerning Microcephaly, whose data is sent by means of electronic form systematization. For cases of microcephaly, it’s recommended that follow-up should begin immediately after delivery in primary health care and, if necessary, be monitored by different specialists. They should get early stimulation in rehabilitation services, so that she and her family are well assisted and have the necessary support. Conclusion : The focus is to follow the guidelines of health professionals, the procedures and measures adopted for the rehabilitation of children diagnosed with microcephaly, and the emphasis on early stimulation in basic health units, aiming to increase potential physical and neurological growth, behavioral, cognitive, social and affective.
