Abstract

A rapid and efficient means of evaluating and managing a service area is of great importance in microcellular systems. This paper describes a new microcell automatic propagation measuring system (MAPS) with cell-site management database access. Measurement location is recognized using the Global Positioning System, an optical-fiber gyroscope, and a vehicle speed sensor. Cell-site identification is determined through cell-station ID. Computer-aided propagation-data processing is adopted for service area mapping. The management database for a cell-station is a client-server system based on object-oriented programming technology and a relational database. The service-area evaluation of microcellular systems and area mapping are discussed. This system contributes to efficient area management and enhances the operation of cell-stations in a microcellular system.
