Abstract

Two major problems encountered with detection of microbubbles by M-mode echocardiography are 1) microbubbles generally produce weak echoes, and these weak echoes can be eliminated by echo processing adjustments, and 2) generation of sufficient microbubbles for tracking is not always possible. Since echo Doppler is designed to function with low level signals, the possibility of microbubble detection by echo Doppler merits investigation. The purpose of this investigation was to determine if range gated echo Doppler is useful for detecting microbubbles for flow tracing.
