Abstract

Previous work has established that sulphate-reducing bacteria have been responsible for pitting corrosion in the bottoms of tanks used in the long-term storage of gas oil. Further information on the occurrence and development of these bacteria has been collected. A suitable biocide has been selected to prevent future attacks and a method of application developed. Trials have demonstrated the absence of deleterious effects on the gas oil or materials of construction.
