Abstract

Once considered a rarity, infectious microorganisms are associated with at least 20% of all cancers, according to Denise Galloway of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) in Seattle, Wash. She and other investigators presented findings that bolster the view that microbes play an important role for many types of cancer during the plenary session “Malignant Microbiology” at the 2014 ASM General Meeting in Boston last May.
