Abstract

Nick Jakubovics speaks to Hannah Branch, Commissioning Editor Nick Jakubovics attended the University of Cambridge (UK) where he obtained a BSc in Biochemistry, which was followed by the completion of a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Warwick (UK). In 1998, he became a postdoctoral researcher at Bristol Dental School (UK) in the laboratory of Howard Jenkinson. In 2004, Jakubovics obtained a NIH postdoctoral fellowship to work at the National Institute for Dental and Craniofacial Research (MD, USA) in the laboratory of Paul Kolenbrander. Following this, in 2007, he became a Lecturer in Oral Microbiology at Newcastle Dental School (UK). His research is focused on understanding the role of the extracellular matrix in biofilms with an overarching aim of developing methods to control biofilms. Jakubovics is a member of the Society for General Microbiology and Executive Committee of the Society for Applied Microbiology.
