Abstract
An increasing number of sociologists and social theorists have come to realize the importance of integrating microand macroanalysis. The writings selected for examination in this essay represent a cross section of current thinking on this topic. A number of theoretical approaches are represented: Marxism, symbolic interactionism, expectation states theory, open systems theory, neofunctionalism, rational choice theory, conflict theory, structural theory, national character study, and selected attempts at synthetic reconstruction.
