Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to investigate the effective protection methods for minimizing the micro dust generation by explosive demolitions of buildings. Small scaled column blast test were conducted with four types of protection methods; two layers of zinc galvanized wire net protection, zinc galvanized wire net+multi-water-bag combination, only multi-water-bag protection and short fiber non-woven fabric protection. From the dust density measurements, it was revealed that zinc galvanized wire net+multi-water-bag combination protection is effective on controlling dust generation in explosive demolition of small scaled concrete columns. Full scaled reinforced concrete column blast tests were conducted with four types of protection methods; non-waven fabric+zinc galvanized wire net combination, zinc galvanized wire +multi-water-bag combination, non-waven fabric+zinc galvanized wire net+multi-water-bag combination and non-waven fabric+multi-water-bag combination protection. It was concluded that combination protection methods utilizing multi-water-bags allowed less dust generations.
