Abstract

The current work focuses on a minute fraction of material engineering, to provide insight into 3D weaving of composite fabrics and also shed light on the mechanical properties of 3D woven carbon composite laminate. The approach and tooling used in this work divides the unit cell into layers and elements and modelling technique used to model the micro-geometry and mechanical behaviour of 3D woven carbon composite is RVE. The properties of the laminate were calculated at unit cell level using Iso-stress and Iso-strain method to understand and estimate the properties of the entire laminate. The work systematically shows the modelling and numerical approach using MATLAB which aids in understanding the behaviour of 3D woven carbon composite laminate.
