Abstract

Latin America really fascinated a lot of European sociologists during the 1960’s, especially among religious studies’ specialists. The careers of two of theses ‘priests experts’, the French Michel Quoist (1921-1997) and the Belgian François Houtart (born in 1925) reveal the porosity between the achievement of surveys in Europe and commitments to the service of Latin-American Churches. The analysis of their first publications on these subjects and the reconstruction of their career allow to suggest a few clues about a cleric generation trained by Catholic Action and attracted to South America.
